Telehealth therapy for clients across Maryland

Your body isn’t an enemy, it’s your greatest source of wisdom

Healing goes far deeper than just managing behavior. While traditional cognitive approaches focus on the mind, my practice centers the most important relationship in your recovery: your connection with your body. Together, we take a different path that honors your body’s vital role in lasting change.

Where people start

You may be here because…

  • Preoccupation with food, calories, or “rules” around eating
  • Restricting, bingeing, or feeling out of control with food
  • Guilt, shame, or anxiety after eating
  • Rigid patterns around “good” and “bad” foods
  • Body checking, or tying your self-worth to eating habits or weight
  • Feeling stuck in cycles of control, stress, or emotional eating

Therapy can help you rebuild a more peaceful relationship with food, understand the emotional patterns underneath it, and support healing through greater balance, flexibility, and self-compassion.

How I can help

Areas I work in

These overlap more often than not. If you recognize yourself in several at once, that is the norm rather than a complication.

i

Eating Disorders & Disordered Eating

The struggle

Chronic food thoughts, rigid rules, and cycle-driven behaviors override your body’s natural signals and steal your mental energy.

The path forward

Reclaim interoceptive awareness, build lasting peace with food, and transition from monitoring your body to living inside it.

ii

Trauma & Anxiety

The struggle

Past wounds and persistent, racing worries trap your nervous system in a constant state of threat, exhaustion, or hypervigilance.

The path forward

Unpack the root causes of distress, learn somatic regulation tools, and establish a deeply rooted sense of present-moment safety.

iii

Body Image, Perfectionism & Self-Esteem

The struggle

An unforgiving inner critic ties your human worth to external aesthetics, flawless achievements, and the approval of others.

The path forward

Break free from harsh self-scrutiny, cultivate unconditional self-compassion, and build an authentic identity independent of performance or appearance.

iv

Athletes & Performance Pressure

The struggle

Identity enmeshment, burnout, injury distress, and intense pressure to excel turn your physical passion into a source of anxiety.

The path forward

Align elite mental conditioning with emotional well-being, navigate identity outside of sport, and optimize performance through sustainable self-care. Care here is RED-S informed (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport), and I work with college athletes navigating the demands of training, competition, and campus life. More on working with athletes →

My therapeutic approach

A bridge between your mind and your body

Top-down and bottom-up, at the same time

Calm therapy room with an upholstered chair beside a softly lit window

I believe that true, lasting healing requires a bridge between your mind and your body. My practice brings together evidence-based behavioral therapies — CBT, DBT, and ACT — with the grounding wisdom of embodiment practices, so we’re not just analyzing your thoughts on a worksheet but working with how anxiety, trauma, or disordered eating urges physically land in your body.

By combining practical coping skills with somatic awareness, we work from the top down and the bottom up together — quieting the critical noise in your mind, soothing your physical alarm system, and building a sense of genuine safety in the home you live in.

Modalities are important, but the therapeutic relationship is the ground beneath them. I integrate different skills at a pace that feels collaborative, responsive, and rooted in what helps you feel safer in your own body.

  • Cognitive behavioural therapyA structured way of catching the thoughts that shape how you feel, and testing whether they are actually true.In sessionWe map the loops that keep you stuck, then practise more accurate and kinder ways of reading the same situation.
  • Dialectical behaviour therapySkills for getting through intense emotion without making things worse: distress tolerance, emotion regulation, staying present. In sessionYou leave with concrete tools for the hard moments, plus language for asking for what you need without it turning into a fight.
  • Acceptance and commitment therapyMaking room for difficult feelings instead of fighting them, so your choices come from your values rather than your fear.In sessionWe name what actually matters to you, then take small workable steps toward it, even while the discomfort is still there.
  • Somatic and mind-body awarenessWorking with what the body is doing, including breath, tension, hunger and exhaustion, not only what the mind is saying. In sessionWe slow down and track sensation together, so the shift is felt in your nervous system rather than only understood.
  • Trauma-informed careA stance rather than a technique: pace, choice and safety come first, and nothing is pushed before you are ready. In sessionYou set the pace. We build stability before going near the hard material, and you can stop or step back at any point.
  • Internal Family Systems informedThe idea that you are made of parts, including the critic, the perfectionist and the one who wants to disappear, and none of them is the enemy. In sessionWe get curious about what each part is protecting, so the conflict inside quiets down instead of escalating.
  • Self-compassion practiceLearning to meet yourself with the same steadiness you would offer someone you care about, particularly on the days the work feels hardest. In sessionWe practise noticing the inner critic without arguing with it, and build a kinder, more workable way of speaking to yourself that holds up under real pressure.
  • Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport informedWhat happens to hormones, bone health, mood and performance when the body is running on less fuel than training demands. In sessionWe treat under-fuelling as physiology as well as psychology, alongside the identity and pressure that hold it in place, and coordinate with your medical team.

About

Hi, I’m Katelynn

I’m a Licensed Certified Social Worker–Clinical practicing telehealth therapy throughout Maryland. I earned my BSW and MSW from Temple University, and I’ve spent the six years since at Sheppard Pratt — first across crisis stabilization and mood disorders, and now on the Eating Disorders Unit.

My time as a collegiate distance runner and team captain is where my interest in the body began: what we demand of it, how we talk about it, and what happens when performance and self-worth get tangled together. That thread runs through everything I do now.

Medical stability & coordinated care

I work only with medically stable clients.

Eating-disorder clients are expected to maintain an established primary care physician, and I may request a routine medical evaluation before or shortly after beginning therapy.

I regularly coordinate with physicians, dietitians, psychiatrists, and higher-level treatment programs as part of your care.

Common questions

Before you reach out

Practical answers to the questions people usually ask before scheduling. If yours isn’t here, it’s a good one to bring to your consultation.

Virtual. All sessions are held over telehealth, so you can meet from wherever you’re most comfortable, anywhere in Maryland.

Adults only.

Sessions are $100 each. I am an out-of-network provider and do not work directly with insurance companies, which keeps your care fully tailored to your recovery goals without external limits.

I can provide superbills for out-of-network claims, and I’m happy to share a list of local in-network specialists if that’s a better fit for you.

The free 15-minute consultation is a casual chance for us to connect before committing to a full intake session. We’ll talk briefly about what you’re hoping to work on in therapy, my clinical approach and how I support eating disorder recovery, and practical details like scheduling, fees, and next steps.

If it feels like a good fit, we can schedule your first official intake session right on the call.

Yes, absolutely. Comprehensive eating disorder recovery thrives on a team-based approach. With your written permission, I regularly collaborate with your registered dietitian, primary care physician, psychiatrist, and other providers to keep your care cohesive, aligned, and safe.

If you don’t have a dietitian or medical provider yet, I’m happy to provide a list of specialists who focus on eating disorder care.
